A driver’s safety and that of others is important.  If you are 55 years old or greater you can have your car professionally adjusted, just for you.

The CarFit program gives you the opportunity to check how well your personal vehicle “fits” you.  In addition, the program offers training and materials to enhance your safety as a driver.

Typically, the mature driver is the safest in that they are more likely to wear their seat belts, and less likely to speed or drink and drive. However, they can experience serious injuries when a crash does occur due to the higher delicacy of their senior frames.

Motorist safety programs improve adult driver safety by focusing on reasoning skills and warranting their cars are properly attuned to them. A suitable fitting car can greatly increase not only the driver’s safety, but also the safety of others.

At a CarFit event, a team of trained volunteer technicians and/or health professionals works with each participant to ensure they “fit” their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety. A CarFit check takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.  The inspector will assure that there is:

  • A clear line of sight over the steering wheel.
  • Plenty of room between your breastbone and the air bag in the steering wheel.
  • A seat that fits you comfortably and safely.
  • A properly adjusted head restraint.
  • Easy access to gas and brake pedals.
  • A seat belt that holds you in the proper position and remains comfortable as you drive.

The inspector also what to assure that you are able to?

  • Reach the shoulder belt and buckle and unbuckle the seat belt without difficulty.
  • Get into and out of your vehicle easily.
  • Sit comfortably, without knee, back, hip, neck or shoulder stiffness or pain.
  • Turn your head to look over your shoulder when changing lanes and backing up.

Personalizing your vehicle with proper adjustments can help you benefit from vehicle safety features by improving comfort, control and confidence behind the wheel.
